The Speaker will offer practical solutions for the most common problems, prepare you to spot the thornier issues, and help you answer the question, "Do I need a gun trust?’”
About our Speaker
Matthew D. Kanin is Of Counsel to RCB, where his practice includes trust and estate disputes, conservatorships, probate and trust administration, and civil appeals. Matt is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law (by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization). His public service includes being a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Trust & Estates Executive Committee, and has been featured as a speaker at several recent seminars, including the June 30, 2025 seminar, “No Contest Clauses” (with Hon. Clifford L. Klein, Ret.), the 2024 “Aviva K. Bobb Advanced CAC Training”, and multiple editions of the Limited Conservatorship CAC training. Matt edited, among other sections, the “Strategy Note” for the 2022 edition of the “CEB Practitioner” series on firearms as inheritable assets, and has given presentations on the subject to multiple Southern California Estate Planning Councils, as well as the 2023 Tax & Estate Planning Forum, and the 2022 UCLA-CEB Estate Planning Institute. He is the current president of the Woodland Hills Estate Planning Council.
He is a 2007 graduate of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, California, and a 2004 graduate of the George Washington University in Washington D.C., where he majored in International Affairs and Philosophy. He is a native Angeleno, and a third-generation California lawyer. Matt and his wife, Maggie, welcomed their daughter, Claire in February; she joins a growing family that also includes, “Stitch”, their fun (and mischief) loving Boston Terrier.
