DESCRIPTION:\nSPEAKER:\n Michelle McDonnell, PhD\n Neuropsychologist\n Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders\n University of California, Irvine\n \nAs adults age, they are at risk for experiencing cognitive decline particularly in relation to a neurodegenerative condition, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Cognitive impairment and decline can have deleterious effects on an individual’s ability to independently manage their finances. As cognitive impairment occurs on a spectrum, so too does one’s ability to effectively engage in financial decision-making. This presentation will discuss the current rates of dementia and notable impairments in financial decision-making across the spectrum of a neurogenerative disease. Additional information regarding the warning signs for cognitive decline and potential recommendations for improved management of finances will also be discussed.\n \nAbout our Speaker:\n Dr. Michelle McDonnell is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and researcher at the UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, a federally funded Alzheimer’s Dementia Research Center.
